To address the new Common Core standards for mathematics, Envision Math was adopted in grades K-5 for the 2013-2014 school year. This math curriculum aligns with the Common Core Standards by emphasizing problem-solving and reasoning. Grades six through eight use Big Ideas Mathematics, another Common Core curriculum. To truly embrace the standards for mathematical practice (a critical piece of the new Common Core Standards for mathematics), increase rigor at the middle school level, and improve the opportunity for students to access real-world problems, we’re introducing the College Preparatory Mathematics (CPM) program in the 2015-2016 school year.
Implementation will begin with sixth grade and continue in grades seven and eight over the next two years. By the 2017-2018 school year, all students in eighth grade will take Algebra I in preparation for high school.
