I still have the default remo single ply's that came with my PDP X7 series, and even then they were able to get tuned up. It's hard to tune my bass drum batter head because I use the Evans EMAD, and the foam fixture on the head makes it hard for the drumdial to seat properly, but for the remaining six pieces of my set, it's brought it all to life. I've been an avide drummer for 15 years, but never quite obtained the ear for tuning, and now, I don't much have to worry about that.
